There is a wealth of places to visit and many things to do here in Aberdeenshire. Your hosts, David & Noëlle, will be delighted to give you their recommendations.

Golf – there are 60 excellent golf courses to choose from in the region, from Royal Aberdeen (pictured left), the sixth oldest golf club in the world, to our own, high quality, local course in Kemnay

Dining out – The best restaurants in the area specialising in Scottish cuisine, such as the Grant Arms in Monymusk (10 mins drive) or Pittodrie House Hotel, Chapel of Garioch (10 mins drive) require booking in advance. We’ll be happy to make bookings on your behalf and organise taxis for you.

Strathisla-distillery

Distilleries & Fishing

Whiskey – Netherton is less than an hour away from the sensational North East whisky distillery trail with famous names such as Glenfiddich, Strathisla (as pictured on the right), Macallan, Aberlour, Glenfarclas and many others including our local Glen Garioch. (20 mins drive) 

Gin – New gin distilleries are also springing up across the region which is also home to the popular BrewDog brewery. David worked in the drinks industry for many years and will be delighted to advise on drams and tours.

Fishing & Deer Stalking – superb salmon and trout fishing is available on the Rivers Dee, Don, and Deveron. River Don bookings on our own and other stretches can be made via the Fish Pal websiteDeer stalking is also very popular in the Cairngorms nearby.

Castle Trail & Balmoral Estate

Castle Trail – we are situated on the famous ‘Castle Trail’ for you to visit some of the 300+ stunning castles in the region, including Castle Fraser (pictured left), just a 5 minute drive away. There are more castles here than anywhere else in the UK!

Hiking – for keen hikers and walkers, there are great local walks and cycle trails including Bennachie (a pre-historic and extinct volcano, a ten minute drive away) and, of course, the mountains and lochs of Upper Deeside on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park.

Balmoral Estate – for those with an interest in the Royal Family or fans of the Netflix series ‘The Crown‘, you can visit the breathtaking Balmoral Estate, just an hour and a quarter’s drive from the lodge.
